Fresh on the heels of the DVD releases of Uwe Boll’s Postal and the comedy director’s cut of House of the Dead comes his movie entitled Seed. Regardless of his past failure with Name Of The King and losing his main, original financing source, Uwe has tried to take over 2008 with several movies. What he keeps on doing, however, is generating publicity enough to entice critics to watch his movies just to have something to tear apart. Which in a way intrigues viewers into wanting to see if the movies were actually that bad. Perhaps this paragraph could have been opened with: more fresh crap on your heels, from Uwe Boll. You should really watch what you step in and what you rent.

Seed was directed by Uwe Boll with a cast of actors and actresses that don’t carry banner names you’d probably recognize. The story is about a hulking mass of a serial killer who is put in the electric chair. After surviving the jolts he is announced as being dead just so that they don’t have to release him. Buried alive, the killer is angry and digs his way back out to exact revenge.

Visually, Uwe Boll has captured some strong tone ala spooky, dark vibes that sort of have a Texas Chainsaw Massacre feel to them. However, what is being presented in this shadowy world of his isn’t exactly of high end entertainment or art value; in my opinion. You’re not really getting much of anything new in regards to the killer and Uwe has a tendency to keep scenes running needlessly long. The movie opens with a warning about “real footage” being used, which is part of what had Uwe pledging donations to PETA during filming. The movie opens with footage of animals being killed and tortured. Then the movie moves on to killing babies. At times it felt like shock value for the sake of shock value, which renders the shock not so shocking. No they weren’t really killing babies in real footage, but animals: yes.

There is an almost neat scene in which the killer is attacking a victim’s head with a tool of death. This is another long shot scene, but this time it could have been a real bloody treat for gorehounds. The scene consist of the killer just hacking away on a bound human’s head, but instead of using a grand special effects wizard to make this revolting scene really stand out, they resort to CGI. Suddenly the human head being hacked/bashed looks like a video game sprite and just plain silly. So much for being scared.

The ending, wasn’t actually all that bad for the torture horror sort of genre this will get lumped into. Very twisted.

The entire movie feels like it is being seen through the eyes of one of those elderly people that cannot stop shaking their heads. Every single frame bobbles up and down with the nerve disorder I am too lazy to look up the official name for.

Overall: more Uwe Boll Crap, but you cannot help but wonder if one day he is actually going to pin all of the right ingredients together and make something good. This one at least would have looked good had the slow and shaky cam not been so slow and shaky. Horror fans should possibly rent this one though, just to formulate their own opinion. In a genre already watered down with repetitive crap, perhaps you will find something to clutch on to in this.
